Where to get red lenses for my W111 Coupe tail lights?

Hi all,

my '62 W111 Coupe has been fitted with later red and orange tail lights. I would like to replace the lenses by all red ones. I remember having seen some in retro fairs back in Europe but I don't know where to order them.

Try Mercedes Benz dealer too. You'd be surprised how often MB is cheaper than Ebay.

The thing is that on earlier models the red lenses cannot be separated from the chrome frame I believe, while later models with orange ends can be separated. I have seen red lenses manufactured for the later models. This is because you cannot rechrome the earlier models without breaking the lense. So restorers put these non original red lenses on later frames when they restore an earlier car. I may be wrong, but I think this is the story.

I need only the lenses that may not be available at MB, as they are not original, or good used red taillights, if the price is reasonable.

From what I always understood the red was a US-only thing because of some weird DOT regulation that was changed in the 60's - hence the turnover to yellow later on. Earlier 108's had all red tails too. The replacement frame I picked up for my 4.5 is red... wiring is different, too (brake is where the turn is and turn is where the tail lamp is IIRC).

I'd look to see if someone with all-reds wants to just trade you straight up for your set even.
