Sounds good. How did you adjust them? I think mine are in same range and are working well. I have not got around to adjusting spare set, mainly because a generous ex SL owner GAVE me a new set of trigger points - still in box!

I want to say thank you to everybody who contributed to this thread. I have working on getting a friends 280SE 4.5 back in road worthy condition. After going through all the basics, the engine still didn't want to run very well. I finally pulled the trigger points and measured the angle that the points were closed. They were in the 160-170 range. I adjusted the points to 110 degrees. WOW what a difference this made in how the car idles and runs. I wonder how many D-jet M116/M117 engines are running around with severely worn trigger points. I would really like to see how well a fresh rebuilt set of trigger points would perform, but unfortunately cost prevents my friend from getting a rebuilt set.

Hi from Germany,
maybe it is of interest I developed a tool for testing and re-adjusting even heavy-worn trigger-points of the D-Jetronic to the original values.

This will allow to prolong the life of the contact set several times.

The tool has now been approved by VW (Porsche), GM (Opel), Volvo and Daimler-Benz V-8 - owners.

The tool I published works on all systems (except 'Jaguar') with just one simple modification.

Dimensions of the tool are metric... but the D-Jetronic is in fact a European system built unter DIN standards.

I have no financial interest, the tool can be rebuilt by everyone.

I published this in a german forum and would like you had a look at this: www.kad-forum.de • Thema anzeigen - Kontakteinschub "Gebiss" D-Jetronic warten und instandsetzen (scroll down for the figures).

I would like to hold all the information in one place for possibly correcting errors or making annotations just there.

It would be not so easy for me to translate all the German text - but maybe this is not necessary.

I don't speak German so don't understand just how to use the tool But
it looks like you insert a feeler gauge between the tool and the Rubbing blocks to 3 Thousands of a inch ( 0.03 ) however is that with the points just touching ? or open ? or closed ?
perhaps the builder could enplane that important detail ?
Now I take it your selling this tool ? how much does it cost ? and whats the shipping to the USA ? west coast

Hi,
I'm Norbert, developed the tool noticed in the text above.

You must know there exist two different base-versions of the tool, both working fine but are to be used in different manner and with different feeler-gauges.

(new) tool with max. diameter of 22,00 mm (0.87 in) : measurement between tool and fibre blocks: 0.02 in

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(older) tool with max. diameter of 24,00 mm (0.94 in) : measurement between the trigger points: 0.03 in (produced in different variations, with 1 to 3 notches)

The different instructions in the appendix - choose the matching one (3_1 is the newer one)

- I shipped only very few tools of the old version outside Germany - but maybe someone else produced them, using the old figures, published early in 2014 only in Germany
