Question Installing new seals on doors

I bought new seals for the front and back doors on my 72 250 awhile back and never got around to installing them. Is there really anything to this? I'm assuming that once I have peeled off the old ones that I should try to clean any old adhesive off with some kind of solvent. What type of adhesive should I use to put the new ones on?

GMASK,

Take a trip to your local automotive paint supplier (Look in the Yellow Pages under" Automotive Body Shop Equipment & Supplies") and buy yourself the 2 products you need:

1) 3M makes an aerosol solvent specifically for removing the old weatherstrip. Just spray on to loosen the old adhesive, remove the old weatherstrip, and use the solvent to remove any remaining adhesive.

2) Then use 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive (comes in a tube) to install your new weatherstrip.

Good luck!

Tom Drew

It's nice on the W108 how the door seals are installed by press-fit (with the exception of around the hinges where you need adhesive). But as far as adhesive goes, I would recommend the MB "Special Adhesive". It comes in a blue can and is orange-ish in color. Use it in a well ventilated area or else you'll be pretty high by the time you have the seals installed! I recommend to start at the corners and work your way towards the center, as you may have to "bunch" the seals up a little to make them fit, but don't worry, it all comes together! If you're using original MB rubber, you do not need to trim anything. I can't speak for aftermarket though. You will need plenty of 3M Adhesive Remover for the trunk seal though. Have a trash can handy for the scraps, there'll be alot of them!

Yep, directly from MB. I thought I had the P/N on hand, but just ask your local parts guy for it. He'll know what it is.
