A little smakk for a support bearing. I would checka round the subframe attatchment points for any missing washers. It looks like a washer designed to capture some rubber busting of some sort. does it look machined? or stamped/forged? I don't know these old cars...

I believe you have it - that seems right - I was not so careful with the disassembly at the beginning.
Thanks all

Given its shape it pushes the big washer forward when tightening, and helps compressing the bottom shock bushings to eliminate play.

Newbie needs guidance;Any advice?

I saw your posts and I am curious as to why you swapped out the rear. I could also use any advice anyone might have on this topic, too.

I am looking to do something similar to a '68 250SE (looks just like yours-cream white exterior). My car has a floor mounted 4spd. manual which has a very looow first gear (which is too low for around town use)and trying to cruise on the highway means buzzing the engine pretty good. I purchased a 3,27 ring and pinion set and 'found' ($0) another rearend assembly identical to the one in the car (both have 4,08 ratio stamped on side of housing).
I have the MB factory repair manual. I've set up several domestic R&Ps before, so I am somewhat confident that setting up this gear set shouldn't be too big a deal (famous last words, I believe!).

I know enough from reading here to replace the swing-axles rubber boot.
Are there any other parts that I should count on having to replace?
I saw a post which referenced a 'sliding sleeve'-not sure what that is.

Thank you for your help!
