Finely replaced my wrecked car
I have a new car
I still have not settled with the insurance company (swines) but I needed a car. I had been looking, vie the internet, for a Mercedes coupe. My thinking was that the only cars which would be in excellent working order would be the coupe. I loved my SEL but no one restores SEL's to factory new working condition. During my search it soon became obvious that I would have to fly to LA to personally inspect my future purchase. Most of the restored coupes are on the west coast. This past weekend I purchased a perfect 1968 280 SE Coupe with a 2.8 engine. I had wanted to get a 3.5 but everyone that I looked at needed to much work and all were priced too high. I hope to have her delivered sometime next week.

nice
3X, That car is amazing. Brings back some memories.
About 4 yrs ago, my former indie mechanic in the SF Bay Area had a vintage 70's (?) SEL, the larger 3.5 but it was priced about $8- 10K. It was perfect but it had experienced an electrical fire under the hood and needed the wiring replaced and minor cosmetic work under the hood. No idea what became of it. An acquaintance who lives in South America has your exact car. He had it restored and loves it. He visited a few weeks ago and was amazed with my 1979 300D. (no dash cracks!) You have an excellent car ! How many miles?? whats the dope on it?? rebuilt engine etc. ????

Britton, it looks like a stunner, when are you bringing it back? You should be able to yield many usable parts from the 280SEL.

That car looks like you went back in time to 1970 and bought a 2 year old car! I wish you many happy years and miles!

Very nice coupe. How long did it take to find it? It even has the correct slim face Becker. Hopefully one day pics of mine will be gracing the pages of this forum. I am actually making some very slow progress on my restoration.
Who is your insurance co? What kind of insurance did you have? Did you buy back your wrecked car from them? I am always concerned about an accident or having it stolen when I start driving my coupe again. If it were ever totalled I would want it back so I could strip it of all the restored parts that were not damaged.
