Which oil should I put in my W108/111 LSD?

Hi,

The Workshop manual says I should use some special hypoid transmission oil SAE 90 but I miss the sheet 235.3 which refers to lubricant specifications.

Autozone here has the following:

- Valvoline High Performance with the mention "Limited Slip" and it comes in 85W-140; 75W-90 and 80W-90.

- They also have Valvoline Dura Blend with the mentions "Synthetic Blend" and ""Limited Slip" as well. It comes in 85W-140 and 80W-90.

Which one should I use?

OK, the manual says 90wt, suggesting a "straight weight" oil. Now you have option, multi-viscocity gear oil or "straight weight" gear oil. Choose what's best for your climate and driving conditions. Driving year round or only in summer?

I'm based in DC and I'm driving all year round. Going to Ohio often even in winter. Summers in DC can be quite hot.

This link has the MB approved oils. But, I don't see 235.3!

I use a synthetic oil from a major company like shell/mobil/castrol but I don't have a LSD.

If it's an LSD, you need to use either the MB stuff or a special additive for LSD. The MB stuff is the approved stuff and the additive is something that you can find in the parts store.

As mentioned above Limited Slip Differential oil is a very special blend ,one cannot use the ordinary 90 weight oil used in ordinary or normal differential. Doing so will ruin it in short time with a chattering sound.
