Thumbs up 1969 220D - Barn Fresh

Just wanted to share a client's recent acquisition- a 1969 220D that has been in storage since 1982.

When the original owner passed away, the car was left for time to take its toll. Thankfully, the /8 aged gracefully into the realm of patina. With the exception of a repaint prior to sitting, the car is original and unmolested. The interior is wholesome, only minor wear and tear from use no rips, cracks do plague the dash. Minimal rust when you compare it to other W115's put in similar situations.

W115's were straightforward cars, unless ordered otherwise. This particular example has a variety of options. Manual Sunroof, Automatic Column Shift, Becker Grand Prix and a Shortwave Radio in the glovebox.

First order of business for a barn fresh W115 is to determine the condition of the motor. Removed the injectors, applied some lube and effort was made to turn the engine with a 27 at the crank. A pleasant sound of movement and quarter turn later we called it a successful night.

In the coming weeks, the car will be started for the first time in 28 years and evaluated from there. In the mean time, here's some photos--Enjoy!

Belts are still tensioned

You probably can't tell its past 8pm

Intact map pockets anyone?

A hint of what's in store

More to come

Was this barn at the beach? Looks like a lot of corrosion everywhere. It may have been in a barn... But, there is a LOT of previous sun damage.

I think you are right about it being "unmolested". Especially under the hood.

Did they come with sound deadening on the firewall? I don't remember seeing that on other ones I have seen. Although I was not looking that close.

Cool car!! What part of FL?

Merritt island should explain everything The trim is pitted etc.

Evidence reveals that the engine may have a replaced head, notice the late model fuel filter housing and bracket. I don't have a picture of it but the exhaust manifold has the revised 14mm nuts and washers instead of the original 17mm?.

The black material? Absolutely. It's in pretty good shape too.

Nailed it, That's Pierre Hedary.

Good eye on both accounts.

And that's Bill Cosby. Former owner of said Geländewagen 320. Equipped with all the usual all terrain necessities but plagued by the electrics of the M104.

You couldn't get a G-Wagen in the USA in 1993.

Wow very cool! Is it for sale by chance? I know of a person who is desperately looking for a LWB G320 to convert into a diesel. (Or is this one still badged as a 300GE?)

And yes you could buy one in 1993......you just had to be willing to pay $135,000 for one

'93 G320

Not for sale

For that price, i'll take three X.x

After seeing the progress on the car, the owner of the 220D is considering a moderate level restoration; front end rebuild, new dash, refreshing most of the visuals etc.

What would your preference be?
Would you guys keep some of the cosmetic fixings down to a minimum or go all out and make it perfect in every way?
