1967 L406D, (Düsseldorfer T2 Series 1)

I am about to purchase a Mercedes van from its owner an 87 year old woman who loves the vehicle but, due to bad knees, just can't get into/out of it the way she used to. In a former life it was a yellow German postal van but has since been painted white and converted to a camper/motorhome.

Because it has been sitting for the last 12 years, all four wheel cylinders are incredibly corroded and need to be replaced.

Does anyone know how to search for truck parts on MB EPC? I've tried entering the VIN with no luck. I've also tried the model designation (309.116) and got nowhere. The Russian site is a little better but doesn't provide part numbers. I believe many of the parts on these vans interchange with Unimogs and/or G-wagons but can't pin down which models apply.

The original wheel cylinders have ATE and the number 5 in the casting. I haven't cleaned them up yet in order to measure the bore.

There are many European forums for these vehicles, many of which point to German, Spanish and French Ebay sites for parts but the factory part numbers seem to be a well kept secret.

By the way~ the original 2.2 diesel (OM615) and 4 speed manual have already been swapped out for an OM617 NA with a 4 speed auto. The body is rough but we got it started and the engine purrs. But I won't know about the drive train until the brake issue is addressed.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I assume by cylinders you mean drums?

I can't guarantee these are correct, but a little research and some translation and maybe these are what you're looking for: http://cgi.ebay.de/Bremstrommel-vorn-Mercedes-406-407-408-409-508-/300519884241?pt=Autoteile_Zubeh%C3%B6r&clk_rvr_id=236650747447

The title says front brake drums for 406 etc, the text is a bit different. It's a model 309. This site: http://www.part-gostar.com/brake-drum-bus.htm

Gives p/n 309 334 0604

And this site: http://www.jefflondon.net/ is probably one to bookmark.

The inventory tab doesn't show any in stock though.

http://www.autonationalltd.co.uk/Catalogues/Autonational's%20Brake%20Disc%20and%20Drum%20Catalogue.pdf

They list BDM 0434 as a good part number for the fronts up through 1995.

Thanks!

to those who responded... thank you.
by wheel cylinder i meant wheel cylinder as in hydraulic device to push on the shoes. this vehicle has drums all the way around.
at the suggestion of another forum member i purchased a one year subscription to the version of epc that includes trucks, vans, unimogs, etc. so i'm now able to view every part/number for the van.
once again, thank you!
