Any thoughts on this 280SEL??

1972 Mercedes 280 SEL 4.5

Paint is 10 years old, looks good from 10ft. Chrome could use a polishing. Runs good, no issues. Just had new distributer, and fuel injectors cleaned, said it was missing at a certain RPM but now is good. Timing chain etc.

2 of the windows are having issues. AC blows cool, but getting warmer. Had small amount of rust in the wheel wells which he patched and painted.

He is firm on $6750....I think $6,000.

Going to be inspected tomorrow by a Classic Mercedes specialist.

If it comes back ok, I will bite on it!

Handsome car, although you're smart to have it looked over.

Good luck and let us know what transpires!

I came across a white 108 SEL, sorry, total opposite color, and also it is a M130, sorry opposite motor, but I sure do like it for its green interior color (yeah, I have odd taste*):

*My daily driver is a "1992 ahem-double-you" with a blue interior, and I love it. Sure beats the black/grey/tan that 99% of them have.

Got a call this am. Mechanic said it a very clean car. No leaks, no rust. Everything seemed fine. Did say the motor mounts were a bit old, and the king pins a bit worn. Other than that he said the AC just needs a recharging. All electronics worked, power Windows on one side were a bit slow. Motor ran very well, and needs nothing.

With this being said, I intend on daily driving this car in town for 4-5 months until I begin moving. Do you think it sounds like a good purchase?

Looks like a well-cared for car.

Did you pay $5,800 for it?

I like the floor shift...don't see those too often.

My 4.5 is a column shift.

Your car likely has 143,974 miles as the odometer doesn't have the sixth digit.

My car has 180,000 miles, and still runs like new.

Congrats!

For hoses (and motor mounts), click 'Buy Parts' at the top of the page.
