i agree black with big old white walls should do the trick. with a red interior..

I agree completely, even on the red interior. Or a white/light grey would look great on these. I saw one recently with a light grey interior with white detailing on the edge of the seat, etc.
If I were media blasting my whole car that's what I'd do--change to black. Right now it's white with a red interior.

Where did you find the booster rebuild kit?
I would go with a vintage black. |

Never been a fan of the black/red combo but I say paint it however you want, as long as it's an originally available color. Mine is graphite gray, a great color.

It's your vehicle to do with as you wish, but if it were me I would not be changing the color. Red is an uncommon color for these cars and it will look good in it and somewhat rear. I'd not be going to all that trouble with a restoration to change colors on it but that's just me.

Harry,
Here's a pic of the old girl. Gee, I've got to go get here out of storage and get that fuel out of her. I realize she's in the shade but she always looked best out of direct sunlight. Black/Red always looked too Batmobiley IMO, but best of luck in your choice. The original color of yours is sweet too.

Interior light wiring
Does anyone know how the rear interior light is wired in a 220sb?
I cant remember if it is controlled by the opening of the doors or from a switch on the dash or both. Im sure the front light is switched from doors and rear is a courtesy light controlled from dash switch. Am i right? I left the one overhead piece of the wiring loom in and has been damaged from media blasting. oops. I wish the guy i payed $180 per hour had some brains. he didnt even cover the chrome roof guttering. Its all faded now, im hoping something will bring out the shine again! |

The rear interior light is controlled by a rocker switch on the dash.

Blasted the chrome? Nice
The front light isn't triggered by the door either, right? It's switched on by opening the little flap door over the light. Maybe later years are door-tripped.

oh yeah, thats right. So what are the door switches for? my wiring loom hooks up to these switches and both interior lights, thats why i assumed they did one or t'other.

King Pins
I'm busy dismantling the front axle in preparation for sand blasting and while Im doing so I've got new kingpins to go in, along with other things.
I've Managed to dismantle the kingpins o.k but the brass sleeves in which the kingpins slot into I'm not sure of how to remove and replace these. I didn't think it was possible or needed, but the repair kit i have comes with replacements. Im guessing they are either pressed in or will unscrew somehow. Any body familiar with this task? Also im still looking at replacing the square Diff rubber/steel mount which sits in the boot/trunk. Any suggestions on where to get one? I have some updated photos to come of the resto but not much welding progress at this stage. Hopefully get stuck into it this month. |
