Window lift success and where's the overflow tank go?
Ok, two separate items, but both are short and probably not worth individual posts.
First, got my window switches from fastlane a couple of days ago and installed them today. First thing is: these switches take alot of physical abuse and look kind of cheep after 30 yrs of service. The ones sold by fastlane are EXCELLENT. The chrome is really good. Just the cosmetic upgrade is WORTH IT. This got two opposite side windows working. I already knew the motors worked by testing them with a battery charger. Then moved on to replacing all fuses EXCEPT the two 25 amp'ers. fastlane didn't list them so I'll have to try elsewhere. 2 switches + new fuses = fully functional windows. Still a little slow though. I'll need to replace the window channel and brushes sometime. Second: When I bought the car, it was converted to R134. In the process, the A/C hoses seem to stick up a little more than stock ones I've seen. I think this is why my radiator overflow is beside the left hand light bucket. It's not bolted to anything, just sitting there. Is this where it is supposed to be? There appears to be mounting holes on the left inner fender well that used to attach to something???? Guess I'll have to go to the recycling yard. Oh yeah: I also replaced the alternator and regulator. I took my alternator out to see if the brushes were worn. Turns out 108 body alternators don't have replaceable brushes like 116 ones do (that I could see anyway). A close examination showed a bearing squeaking pretty bad. Might as well get it over with now and not have to tow the car later. Both items were from fastlane and were perfect items. I did have to file the woodruf key down a little as it sticks up slightly over the pulley. Good parts, good service. My kudo's to Mercedesshop.com. Sholin

How long did it take you to locate the regulator? Took me about an hour, a most unlikely place to look , but sure enough easy to get to.

Howdy Mike,
I kind of cheated: I've got the 114/115 manual. The instructions for power windows is very similar to the 108 style window, but the 108 manual isn't very descriptive on the subject. Section 72-8 shows exactly which bolts to remove and in what order. To test them, I really didn't have to do anything more than remove the wires from the terminal block. To replace the window channel: That's another story. Window regulator: Out 'a there. Window glass: out 'a there. Window brush: Out 'a 'there. Again, the 114/115 manual is pretty descriptive in replacing window channel. The only Homer Simpson I pulled is putting the window channel back, there is a metal tab that is part of the window support that holds the felt channel in place. I guess it didn't have any more flex/bend cycles in it. Even with it in place, it seems like the window is designed to bottom out on the power lock servo. I'm wondering if the regulator has an adjustable stop.

Shoot, I was talking about the voltage regulator .
I also noticed that the window seems to stop on the vacuum actuator. That is what wore a hole in the top diaphram of my passenger side actuator. After discovering this, I simply stop rolling the window all the way down.

Shop Manual
Could anyone tell me where to get a shop manual that explains the things the service manual does not? I am currently trying to install new window channels and have the regulator out but cannot figure what to do from there. I know the glass needs to be removed, but I am wondering if the vent window has to removed also, if so how and if not how? I own a 1972 280SE 4.5
