w110 window regulators -- what gives?

It seems like new / replacement window regulators are plentiful. But, in the effort to save $50 a pop.. I thought I would ask the question.

I have a 1967 200d. My rear window regulator gave out. After a little playing around, I was able to get back together again. It now works, but it won't roll all the way down. It gets to 2" before the edge and becomes stiff. If you try to go lower, the regulator pops off.

Now, my front passenger regulator broke. I was rolling it up to the top and it too came loose when the glass was seating along the top seal.

Are these just throw away & replace pieces? It seems like a waste. Is there a trick here that I'm missing? Please share.

Thanks in advance.

Usually the joint of the scissor movement has broken. You can try to repair it.
