W111 dash wood - black tape on it???
I'm replacing my 63 220Sb dash wood with a set that I have refinished. I have just removed the old wood from the car and notice that there is what looks like a strip of black masking tape (except gummier) along the top edge. I don't know what this is. Any ideas?
See photos... thanks Scott |

My guess is that it's a gummy type of residue left over from anti-rattle foam application at the factory.

Yep, What Tomguy said. I found similar stuff on the door window wood on my 72 280se 4.5, except it was a beige colored tape. It is was applied at the factory to absorb any vibration that might cause it to rattle. Also found some on both the left and rightside wire cover plates in the trunk. |
