Confused by the no synthetics part. A very common DOT 4 fluid is Castrol, which is and always has been synthetic. They only added the word synthetic to the label fairly recently.
Castrol Brake Fluid Dot 4 - Motorcycle Superstore Is this fluid not acceptable?

Sorry for the confusion. I'll correct my post.
ALL brake fluid is "synthetic". What I should have said was, don't mix SILICONE based fluid with standard. That's the "blue" stuff. Tech Article: Brake Fluid

Thanks for clarifying. I bought a case of that Castrol, but was worried it wasn't the right stuff.

What about mixing different brands? Or dot 3 and 4? I'm always paranoid and drain it all, but I really don't know.

Mixing brands is fine. Mixing DOT 3 and 4 is fine. I prefer not to but it happens.
