w115 rear doors - early and late difference

As above, are the early and late rear doors interchangeable?

My car is currently undergoing restoration and I need a "new" rear driver side door and only the late model doors are available at the moment. Has anyone tried swapping the late model door to an early one?

It's a 1969 200d W115.

What are the last six numbers of your VIN?

It looks like doors 220D doors from 1967 to 1973 interchange. The cut off body number is 277010.

I've got the printed parts guide for W114/W115 chassis. It shows one rear door for all four door models, left and right. So you should be able to use that later door.

I used a front drivers' door from a '76 when repairing my '73 without a problem. Just had to drill holes for the earlier style side view mirror. Vent glass and everything bolted right in.

EDIT: My parts guide is for W115 only. "Chassis and Body Spare Part List", printed July '73. It's good through the '74 body updates. I see no reason a later door won't work on your car, especially after my experience with the '76 front door on my '73.

Thanks for the info, I'll ask the seller to check the VIN of the donor car to see if it makes the cut-off. Does it apply to the rear doors as well?

That's what I'm thinking too since I don't see any difference except for the vent windows and side mirrors for the front doors. The rear ones look exactly the same to me. Thanks for the input.

Where are you located? I might have a line on a 1971 220D but I don't know about the condition of the doors. But I hope to soon.

Far as I've seen the rears are the same. The late trim (door cards) will fit an early door.
