w108 280sel Starter removal

1970 280sel (w108)

Need to remove the starter.

I previously replaced the starter on my w116 300sd and that was no easy task.
Had to drop the exhaust and just soak the starter mounting bolts for days

I cannot find a tutorial on the removal of the w108 280sel starter.

Before I tackle this project I would like to know the Do's and Don'ts

Any advice on where to start and what steps to take is greatly appreciated.

To do this you need to get the car up on a host.

Removal Procedure:
Disconnect the Battery!!
Disconnect the wires from the starter
Remove the two bolts. There is an lower and upper. The lower should require a 19mm socket. The upper will require a 10mm allen socket with at least a 18" extension to reach the bolt which is on top of the transmission and is reached from the back.
Good Luck

Is it a 4.5 or a 2.8? If it's the 4.5 it's 2 hex bolts (no allen sockets). You'll need a crescent / box wrench for the top bolt, and patience (it helps to have double joints in your wrist, but I don't).
