w108 280sel Starter removal
1970 280sel (w108)
Need to remove the starter. I previously replaced the starter on my w116 300sd and that was no easy task. Had to drop the exhaust and just soak the starter mounting bolts for days I cannot find a tutorial on the removal of the w108 280sel starter. Before I tackle this project I would like to know the Do's and Don'ts Any advice on where to start and what steps to take is greatly appreciated. |

To do this you need to get the car up on a host.
Removal Procedure: Disconnect the Battery!! Disconnect the wires from the starter Remove the two bolts. There is an lower and upper. The lower should require a 19mm socket. The upper will require a 10mm allen socket with at least a 18" extension to reach the bolt which is on top of the transmission and is reached from the back. Good Luck

Is it a 4.5 or a 2.8? If it's the 4.5 it's 2 hex bolts (no allen sockets). You'll need a crescent / box wrench for the top bolt, and patience (it helps to have double joints in your wrist, but I don't).
