Cheap Synthetic oil in Canada today
I had read on another forum, that Canadian Tire now sell a Euro 5W40 synthetic oil that meets Mercedes 229.3 and 229.5 specs.
I was in there today to buy some oil for my marine diesel and saw the Motomaster Euro oil on sale. I paid $21.90 per 5L , That's quite a bit less per liter than the US$25 that I usually paid for Mobil 0W40 when in USA. Not sure how long sale is on for. They were also giving extra CT money on purchases. I read somewhere that the oil is made in USA by CITGO. One odd thing. Their website has a different number for the Euro oil and viscosities are different. But the oil I bought was definitely labeled European and had the VW/BMW/MB specs that it was suitable for on back.

Note that older engines don't need oil to meet modern specs. The best thing to do with an older engine with flat rockers (versus roller rockers) is to ensure you use an oil with a higher zinc content to protect them, as this is a high shear area of the engine. That being said, it does sound like a good price for oil for a modern car that would need a 5w40 oil.
