1973 450SL Convertible Top / Power Windows

I recently purchased a 1973 450SL and have had zero problems with the power windows until I put the soft top up. They would not work at all. As soon as I put the top back down, the windows worked fine. I am not having this problem with the hard top. Is there a switch or sensor that I am not aware of that is blocking the windows from working.

Thanks......

Might be better to ask question on a 107 forum. There is an SL forum here, right below this one. But more owners at Benzworld R/C107 forum.

By the way, there is no switch and power window wiring is nowhere nearby. Maybe your windows catch on the convertible top as you try and raise them?

I tried using the windows with the doors open as well.

This is a tough one, and it appears you are going to have to track down the power situation.

If the windows will not go up or down when the soft top is up but do work with the hard top in place I would quickly go to the door windows binding on the weatherstripping on the soft top. It is not hard to get a convertible top out of adjustment and they are a bear to put back right.

But since you have tried soft top up and door open operation and you still have the problem you will have start tracking the power.

The bad part is you will need to remove the door card, or door panel, to get access to the power window motor. The good part is this is not that hard to do.

Once in there you will have to see if you have power to the motor when the switch is shown with the top up. If so then you have a motor problem which this does not sound like. But if you have no power to the motor then check the switch and see if you have power to the switch, and so forth.

I must admit this is a weird problem. I have never seen anything like it and can't imagine a pathway for it to be a thing.

And... Also check your ground. How you could be losing this by putting the top up I can't imagine since the wiring does not go through the top storage area of the car.
