My plan is to just change the cam oilers and valve cover gaskets and spark plugs for now, and then drop the engine in and get it running. The bell housing should be here soon.

Could the clutch disc and pressure plate from the I6 work on the V8?
The clutch is pretty small. I had one rebuilt for the 230 I'm doing and he said it's good for about 200hp. It will not bolt to a v8 flywheel I the stock location either. You may be able to bolt a later w114/r107 style 4 speed to your v8 bell. The input shaft is not correct though. At that point a BMW e36 flywheel and clutch may be able to be used with an adapter hub you would need to have made. The shaft is shorter so the adapter would bolt between the crank and flywheel and move the flywheel towards the trans and also house the pilot bearing and center the flywheel. The bolt holes would need to be ovaled out a bit to line up with the v8 pattern. You will need different bolts or studs(very high quality, ARP or similar) and to keep the auto flex plate and ring gear to start it.

I found a NOS clutch for the m116 V8. So this clutch is almost 50 years old, can I still use it?

What's the "Sell-by" date? Does it smell rancid?

I wouldn't suggest smelling a 50 year-old clutch, it's likely asbestos

I'd use the clutch if the steel portions aren't pitted due to corrosion or the friction material hasn't been contaminated with oils. The shelf life of the lining is probably equal to a Twinkie... indefinite.

I would think you could have a custom flywheel made by McLeod or others with a larger clutch for what a 3.5 flywheel will cost.

I have found a flywheel and clutch and release plate from a 350SL for a reasonable price. So I am happy about that. I am also getting some used Injectors today that I will put into the 4.5. (The ones that came with the engine were fully rusted).

Now the last piece I am missing is part of the throttle linkage. Does anyone have these parts highlighted in red as spares?

Thanks for the help, Yannick

UPDATE

I got all the parts, a used flywheel, pressure plate and the NOS clutch. The bell housing fits onto the 4,5 and on my transmission. I replaced the rear main seal and test fitted the flywheel on the engine. The engine mounts will arrive this week and the fuel pump has been replaced with a 4,5 D-Jet pump. I will test fit the engine soon, and the plan is to have her running and driving before school starts.

So your 6 cyl trans bolts up to the v8 bellhousing? If so you need to check the input shaft length and make sure the pilot tip is properly seated in the pilot bearimg in the crank. I'm pretty sure they are different lengths. Also pretty sure the 6 and 8 cyl clutch are different splines. Better check to see that the disc fits on the shaft before trying to jam it all together assembled.

Finally put the engine in this past week. And you guys are correct, it doesn't clear the W111 Brake Booster. But it does clear the thin W123 brake booster. No clearance issue otherwise, so far...

@rwd4evr You were right, the I6 tranny didn't 100% work, so I got a v8 manual transmission for 200eur plus shipping to the US, although it does have some play...

I still need the three side shift rods, and the shifter assembly. They are the same as in the W114, so if anyone has some, I am looking to buy.

Engine wise I just have to wire everything up (W108 ecu, etc), but I may just convert it to Mega Squirt, seems easy and is surprisingly cheap.

I kept looking for the post that said the v8 exhaust headers did not fit between the finny inner fenders..No problem then?

The headers are fine, but I did not yet mount the downpipes. But if the downpies would not fit, I could just custom fab them.

I have seen a 5.6 in a W112 300SE sedan so I would think it would all fit.

UPDATE

I installed the transmission this weekend. The bracket will not work, the bracket also interferes with the passenger side downpipe. I found a NOS V8 transmission bracket in germany I am hoping to buy soon.
The driveshaft is adjustable, so on the shortest setting it fits
I purchased a MegaSquirt 2, which I will assemble this month. I got an EDIS-8 Ignition system at the junkyard, and my 36-1 trigger wheel will arrive soon.
My goal is to get it running this year
