What Chassis Does This Trunk Triangle Fit?
I have a trunk triangle that I want to sell, but I don't know what cars it fits. The legs are too narrow to fit a W116 or W126. The R/W107 doesn't have a designated trunk location. The only two remaining possibilities are W123 and W124, unless this isn't even for a Mercedes.
The space between the inside of the legs is about 15". The width of the triangle itself is 17", and the total width from the outside edge of each leg is 17 1/2". Total height is 18". The legs are a good 1-2" narrower than the ones from a W116 and W126. When I test fit it in a W116, the legs were too narrow to fit into the rubber mounts, and the legs were also too thick to fit into a W126. I think the legs would be to thick for a W124, as well. Any ideas? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

W124
Just like mine .W124 1989 But the grey trim on the trunk lid was fitted by me because the standard W124 260E did not come with these fitted .

I have one of these, same dimensions and same number of rivets holding the reflective strips on. It came to me in the trunk of my European Delivery '74 240D. I believe it came with the car when it was delivered new in Germany. There is no dedicated place to clip the triangle into the trunk lid like later cars have, but it does fit nicely leaning against the spare wheel. Maybe this is what M-B supplied before they went to the clip-in design. Looks like the same manufacturer as the other triangles I see in the photos above (Dambach?). Mine still has a plastic cover and there is some printed information on it.

Well, these legs are super thick and heavy, much more than any W124 triangle I've seen, but maybe it will still fit? Maybe it's for a W114/W115 and isn't designed to clip in. With how worn the paint is on the back side, it may have been rubbing up against a spare tire or something.

Yep, that must be it! W114/115, not designed to clip in, and missing the cover. Here's one someone was selling on eBay that came out of a W114:

And probably other chassis from around the same time, before clip-in was the thing. I wonder what chassis was the first to have the hazard triangle mount inside the trunk lid. W116?

I think so. Now I wonder what the first chassis was to have these triangles.

I have found these in early 123s that fit in the trunk lid and were held in place by two slots in the trunk lid metal and a knob that fitted into the lid and turned to hold the top of the triangle next to the lid.
