‘73 W114 280 green distributor wire w/o condenser?
I recently replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, and ignition coil (m110 engine). While doing so, I discovered green ignition wire connected from distributor to ignition module had been chewed through. Also, there is no condenser. I found replacement NOS wire on EBay without condenser, part #MB 0001596518, Bosch 1234431253. Is this correct wire, or should I be looking for one with condenser? Part number? Thanks in advance.

I never used this cable because like many of us with Djets, we switched to Pertronix Points replacement. Low cost and makes a big difference as just a points replacement or along with a Flamethrower coil, can replace the points and the switchgear (electronic ignition module)

there a dozen variations of that wire. Some have eyelets on one end, others have a plastic plug. Some have condensors, but they are for radio noise suppression and not the R/C circuit that drives the conventional ignition. There are variants for points and HEI to boot.
In all cases, that green wire is a little coaxial cable with a ground that surrounds the signal wire on the inside. Treat it with a little bit of care and no, you can't splice it. The ignition modules they plug into are all interchangeable, but with subtle differences in wiring (the 1971 300sel 3.5 being the very odd one) caused by the changes in the connectors over time as they tried to refine the quality of the ignition signal. Not that you asked any of those questions, but the next person will wonder and they hopefully will find this thread in the archives. With warm regards, -CTH |
