Rear Window defrost switch problems

Well, the rains have finally come to LA, and as such I'm needing my rear window defroster. When I pull out the switch, the light comes on, but when I release it the switch won't stay on. There's also a slight buzzing sound when I pull the switch.

It seems to work every 30 tries, but won't stay on more than a minute or so.

thanks in advance!

Re: Rear Window defrost switch problems

I'm in LA too and for some reason the light stopped coming on period. Only the bottom half worked anyway when it was coming on but that was better than nothing.

I'm not sure but it may be a loose connection in the wiring in the instrument cluster. That was the last thing I fiddled with before I noticed the light was not coming on. But that is just a wild guess in your case?

I had the same problem with my 240D. Turned out not to be the switch but the defrost relay.

relay

That might make sense - the buzzing sound seems to be coming from my left, in the engine bay. Is this where the relay is?

I'm just glad we're getting the rain - it's going to be ski time soon here in SoCal!

The relay in the 240D is under the dash just to the left of the steering, not sure about the 250.
