good discussion on the vicegrips and nice info on the channellocks but a six sided socket or wrench should do it just as well if not better; it produses way more gripping friction. you may have to jamb in on there since your corners are rounded but it can be done use a file if you have to; use a pipe to lengthen your wrachet. If you are gonna dump the old bolt just use the visegrips. Ace is the place for bolts and stuff.
My allen drain plug is actually 15mm and I just use my pipe wrench instead; it's a sinch. By the way that bolt and your filter one should just be barely tight, maybe 1/2 turn past contact at the very most, just enough to keep it in there. |
