Oh so did you take the metal section out and just install a longer hose?

I have order a set of NGK BP5ES .. hopefully they will be here soon ;-)

gmask: I dunno anything about these cars or carb balance but if cyl 1 is rich to the point of being wet then isn't your front carb way too rich and the rear either just right or only slightly too rich? Did the plugs get less wet or less sooty as you went back? It sounds like they're out of balance and the front carb is over-rich... just my opinion, I'm not at all familiar with carb setups. Either that or cyl 1 wasn't/isn't firing?

Yes, junked the metal and put on a new longer hose. I got a pair of hose holders and screwed them to the fender well. Never a problem and it was nice to have the hose out of the way anyhow.

Well it certainly seems as if overall the mixture is leaner than before which is good.

The question still remains as to why cylinders 1 and 4 are "fouling" at different rates than the other cylinders. Is it typical that the first cylinders for each carb to get more fuel than the others?

I think I may have a contact problem on cylinder 1 so I will probably try putting the old cable back in.. that would certainly account for the roughness in the idle wouldn't it? I noticed inside the connecter that the there was a black trail down along the side as if a spark had been jumping from the connection to the head.

I feel like a n00b .. so the connector on the first sparkplug was bad.. replacing that cable with on of the old ones solved my rough idling problems... I don't know if it was broken before but the 4th one seemed to be flawed as well so I replaced it with an old one as well. So I guess I can't reccomend getting PVL cables.

As for gas mileage I can only hope that it will be better.. better than before and it better be better than the zeniths..arghh!!! I'll have to drive it some more so I can figure out the mileage.
