Hmmmmm...... Where exactly do they tend to crack at, is there a particular point in general?

There was a cracked subframe issue on some of the W107 SL cars but I've never heard of this problem on the W108. Do check around the left front framerail. They have been known to fatigue-crack around the steering box mounting bolts on the W108/109 and W114 cars.
Assuming the car still has it's original rear suspension, also check the rear axle trailing arms for cracks at the cup area surrounding the bushings where they attach to the unibody.

Happy Motoring, Mark

You might wanna put a new thread in this forum and, if no response is made in 1-2 days, bump it back up to the top.

CHECK THE SUBFRAME MOUNTS! The springs are a good causeable source, yes, but these are as well and, by this time, flat, cracked, etc! Jack the car up by the body (NOT subframe or suspension, both front wheels off the ground) and look down into them, if you can see daylight through them, they're SHOT! I bet you can! I pointed them out on the pic of your car

Edit: This can account for 1" or so of sag, combined with 1-2" lost in the spring, is why your car is probably so low - I don't see it being a problem from the spring alone!

Thanks for the reply and suggestions Tom. I think from everything I have read on here, we'll just go ahead and replace the mounts right along with the springs just to be on the safe side. Then I won't have it to worry about. I'm pretty sure that they're probably shot, so whilst we're working on the front end, just replace em and forget about it.

I'll make another post as u suggested about the springs. Thanks so much!
