W115 Rear Windshield Replacement

Since W115 rear windshield seals can't be bought from the dealer or classic center right now, I was forced to use a aftermarket seal. The classic center had no true ETA for them. I tried a URO seal but that was junk, don't even bother buying one. Then a forum member(benzmizer) that lives in the Philippines was able to locate a FEBI seal and he was kind enough to ship it to me. The FEBI seal was of much better quality.

W115 rear glass is very tricky to install so it took a few tires for me to get it in.

I learned that when you position the glass on the car don't try and make all 4 corners perfect, because the glass will shift as you pull the rope through. Position the glass so that one side of the glass looks good, the other side will look bad but don't worry just yet. Once you begin to pull the rope through the opposite side will have already adjusted itself in the correct spot. Also, start your rope at the bottom of the window and go around the glass using the one side of the rope, atleast thats what worked best for me.

Good luck to anyone that tries this.

I think it would be a much easier job if we were able to get OEM seals.

This gives me hope that I can do these jobs myself after NEVER having a successful installation by a professional. It seems like the professionals ALWAYS damage the OEM seals and then you can take them back 6 times and they STILL leak!

I have a hunch that FEBI is the company that makes the seals for Mercedes, and I am curious if this is true.

Well its a 2 person job, someone has to be on the outside applying pressure and getting that outer lip of the seal pulled outwards.

I don't think FEBI makes the Mercedes seals, I think its Lemforder.

Cool. My roommate wants me to help him replace the windshield and gasket in his 1962 220S. This will be good practice for me.

Lemforder, huh? I wish I knew for sure what the OEM brands are as I could probably find one from an parts supplier for MUCH less than the dealer and it would be the same part minus the star logo.

Yeah I think Lemforder is a better brand, about as close to OEM as you can get.

Good luck!!

Would be great to know how the 220S seal goes. I picked up some Febi seals front/rear (while I still can)
