New owner!

Was directed this way by my friend JMela, hey mang!

So I just picked up a 1968 280se from a friend who has a pretty good sized collection of various makes and models.
He's been threatening to sell me a car all summer and it finally happened.
It's a '68 Ivory colored 280se with the chocolate interior. All original and in apparently excellent condition. The only thing that was really bad was the exhuast, it was totally shot. I'm hooking up a S.S. TimeValve system from the resonator on back. The car does stumble a little bit at idle but I'm not sure if that has to do with the exhaust and no back pressure, I'll find out after the new system is on.
Once I get her cleaned up a little, I'll post some pics in this same thread. Not sure if it's common for people to introduce themselves or not, figured I'd just throw a wave. My name is Geoff and I approve of this post.

welcome, i also own a 68 280se.. my car made its way to me with a crap aftermarket exhaust that is rattly and sounds terrible. the rear manifold was also badly weld repaired.

New manifold and full new Mercedes exhaust are sitting waiting to be installed. Looking forward to it.

Stumbling at idle may also be timing/fuel mixture/advance possibly?

Thanks guys. I'm investigating the surging at idle, looking at old posts here. It appears it could be any number of things. I haven't found a vaccum leak after looking around yesterday. Anyhew, here are a couple pics. All original!

Looks great! Very nice. Enjoy.

Make sure you get the fuel lines check out, if they are old and dry they may split and cause a fire. Someone offered me this advise when I bought mine and it was great advise. I experienced 1 split hose in a carpark (no fire) and quickly got them all replaced. About $200 in parts from Mercedes and an hour or so of labor I think at the mechanic. Good preventative measure

I still need to buy a fire extinguisher for the trunk, just in case

These cars are famous for fuel leaks that catch FIRE. Check the rubber on your fuel rail, and the fuel injector seals. For $100.00 you can have complete peace of mind. Forty-year-old rubber is usually disintegrating by now. I posted photos when I replaced seals (easy job).
