warm start up issue

I have a 67 250S. When the engine is warm it sometimes struggle to start. Most of the time its fine even in the morning with the electric choke. The plugs are good brand new carburators timing is perfect. Anyone have ideas what could be the problem?

I just got this car. What is the proper way to start it up warm/cold? The carb manual says when using the choke step on the gas pedal once and turn key. What about when the engine is warm or semi-warm? Am i maybe flooding the carb by stepping on the pedal? My mechanic told me to do it all the time otherwise it wont start. Confusing.

Thanks,

Laszlo

when it's warm, I wouldnt step on the pedal unless necessary, you are probably flooding it to a degree

X2

If that doesn't help try disconnecting the choke (and check that it is fully open) and see if that helps.

I would check your plug wires. Even new sets can have the wrong parts in them. It's usually the coil wire which is often carbon core - that won't work on this car. All plug wires should be metal core.

Try opening the throttle a little bit when the engine is warm. This won't add any extra gas but will give the engine a bit more air to mix with any unburned fuel. If you've been driving for a while let the car idle for a bit before you shut it off. This will let the engine cool a bit which may help at restart.
It sounds like it needs a bit of carb work. The extra fuel is supposed to return back to the tank at idle to prevent vapour lock which is also what you could be having problems with.

When the engine is hot the chokes won't come back on to any great extent.

I installed the replacement weber carbs which dont have return line for extra fuel. I smell gas while driving which suggest rich set up but again its cold outside and that might cause that. On my old chevy I always had to readjust the carb when the weather changed cold.

I will check the wires I never replace those.

Thanks
