Hello Luke... I assume you will be the one who will answer this question.. Thanks in advance.. Well.. I was wondering how much you can lower ur car on average by adjusting bilstein shock. I think bilstein shocks used on Benz have height-adjustable grooves so that you can lower your car if desired. Help me out on this one.. How will this affect your ride quality and handling?? Thanks again..

I'm not Luke but, I'll pitch in my $.02...
Shocks do not affect ride height. Their job is to dampen oscillation. Adjustable shocks give you the ability to change from a firm ride for performance and handling to a softer ride for luxury. Springs and/or spring pads can change ride height. ------------------ Bill Wood - Webmaster MercedesShop.com, LLC |

AMGCKlass are you speaking of an coil-over shock? If so here is my 2 cents worth:
An adjustable coil-over shock (becoming very popular in the import crowd) does and can adjust the ride height of the cars suspension. One day you are riding at stock height, the next you are slammed to the ground. They come with a tool and the height can be adjusted anytime you want. However, there are no, absolutely none on the market made by anybody for Mercedes applications. Sorry! Not even H&R, nor Lorinser, nor Brabus, nor Carlsson, nor AMG, etc. |

Although, I do agree with Bill. The function of shock absorbers is to control spring oscillation. There are several performance shock manufacturers that produce struts with adjustable spring perches which can help lower your vehicle approx. 1.0".
If you have an adjustable perch it will reduce the travel length of the strut so you should adjust your struts to a tighter position. Okie... hmm... I was not talking about coilovers...I was talking about how bilstein shocks have two grooves on them. By choosing one of the two grooves(preferably the lower one), you can lower your car further more.. I think that's what Luke was talking about... those adjustable perches that are seen a lot in import cars... I hope I did not confuse anyone...Hehe thanks for your thoughts...

AMGCKlass,
I think Luke was still talking about the coil-overs - it is only with that setup that you will have adjustable spring perches on the body of the shock. Regards, Nick |
