CCA needs to be 800+, at least in cold weather. It's a big battery, although in moderate weather any charged battery will be able to start your car. 12V is a normal voltage level for a battery not being charged.

Yes, the car will start with no intake installed, but why would you do this? You could suck untold sorts of debris into a newly finished head.
