Battery and Intake Question????????

Need to know what the cranking amps need to be for a 87 300td wagon.

My current battery is registering 12.36 and am not sure this is sufficient.

Second question is will the car start without the intake installed???? I know it is a stupid question but am curious because I have never heard car start just got done doing head job and prior it did not run. Thanks

CCA needs to be 800+, at least in cold weather. It's a big battery, although in moderate weather any charged battery will be able to start your car. 12V is a normal voltage level for a battery not being charged.

Yes, the car will start with no intake installed, but why would you do this? You could suck untold sorts of debris into a newly finished head.

Are you sure 12.36 is Volts. If it has 12.36 Amps, I doubt the clock even works. You need to check how many amps, (CA or CCA) are present in the battery. A McParts place can test it for free and charge it as well. have you had it tested? or checked the water level?

Huh? Capacity is in amp-hours and cannot be directly measured unless on a load tester. If he "measured" 12.36, it's certainly volts, which is the proper voltage for a car battery. CCA is a measure of how much current the battery can deliver under maximum load, presumably when starting at cold temperatures, hence the term Cold Cranking Amps. It's not a measure of capacity, it's a measure of internal impedence.
