What kind of chain tensioner does the 606 diesel engine in the 95 E300D have? My car now has 135,000 mi and with oil changes every 3500 miles, it still has no detectable stretch, according to my tech. I know the subject has been beaten to a pulp, but why replace a working chain when all else seems ok? Is it possible that many perfectly good chains have been replaced in the fear of catasrophic failure? I haven't seen many posts that say "there I was driving down the road, when POW the chain broke!" If anyone has a high-mileage E300D with recommendations, I'd appreciate the advice.
