In have been watching this thread with interest and picked up a few ideas for my 82 500SL euro which I am going to put into action .
My Euro has no catalitic convertor as per OEM specs , it just has the two x 2 inch pipes coming from the exhaust manifold leading to a resonator , but before the resonator right up front there is a cross over pipe which is about 2 feet wide between the two pipes coming from the exhaust manifold .
This crossover is at a ninety deg angle between the two pipes .
I don't know if this is standard on this model or if it was installed by a previous owner , would some one care to comment .
This leads me to say, that from the resonator the twin two inch pipes run close and parallel to the rear muffler which is a twin pipe inlet and twin pipe outlet .
That is 2 inches inlet 1 and three quarter inch outlet tail pipes.
My intention is to remove the resonator completly and replace it with a small 45 deg crossover right at that site leaving the rest of the system as described.
At present the resonator needs replacing, but I will replace with a small crossover as above, as I feel the crossover at this point will dampen sound ( not as much as the resonator ) and give a free flow of gas and a mix of gas to equalize the back pressure , and additionally give a deeper V8 sound.
I will therefore have two crossovers on this system, the one up front and the new one as described .
I will let you know the resulting outcome , good or bad .
Any comments appreciated.
