I do a little bit of woodworking now and then, not nearly as much as I would like to do. I find it very relaxing and there's plenty of time to think about stuff while you sand or plane. I'd much rather work wood than work on a car.
Roy Underhill was always great to watch. I'm not sure what channel he's on nowadays. The best thing about about him is his general demeanor and optimistic cheer. I swear the guy could cut his finger off and be all cheery and happy about it while he keeps on building his project.
As for the plane you bought; if the blade on the plane is corrugated as well as the bottom then it's probably used for base boards or crown moulding or something of the like. Have you tried sharpening it yet? I've had good results from Japanese water stones on regular straight blade planes and chisels. Been wanting to try the piece of glass/sandpaper bit when I do the next project - after I get the 300D running and finish up the bathroom floor.
