I'm no boating expert in ANY sense of the word, but yeah, I saw that the helmsman didn't take corrective action until it was too late...and then crossed the bow of the larger boat instead of veering off to one side...looked like a panic move.
As far as the guy on the bow of the sailboat, he appeared to brace himself for the impact in the last second before the video loses sight of him...I dunno, considering the turn of events there, he may have felt like he would have a better chance of surviving by staying on the craft instead of jumping ship. I don't think he could have gotten out of the way fast enough to not get mowed down by the larger craft!
