Lee - It's been awhile since I saw the thread, but some time ago MBDOC said the Bosch plugs lasted 45K in 103 motors. He must have seen a lot of 103 motors that don't have the valve stem seal/valve guide oil consumption issue.

If that's going on, I don't see how the car would drive well on the same set of plugs for 45K. I usually change mine every 15K - 20K just for general principle. Plugs are never black-oil-sooted, but there is some brown-gray like build up on them. Car usually runs a little better for me after a plug change.
