Did the bushings non my 82 300TD. Did not split them. I used spray silicon on the sway bar and slid them into position. At the time I was rebuilding the entire front end. The plastic piece that closes the sway bar opening will come off and allow the bushing to slide into position.
The job is easier if you remove the brake booster and battery tray. Be ready to treat the battery tray and area below the tray for rust. POR 15 works great. Also have the necessary gaskets for the booster and master cylinder. It can be done without removing the brake booster but I found it more work and frustration than removing the booster.
