There must be some 'static' pressure on this part due to the four hoses that come off of it. Also it must get tired, like metal fatigue and break.
I just changed mine after a car was towed in with it broken!! Actually mine was still 'new' but my tech insisted!

Jim: thank you so much for the info and advice! I will get the part A.S.A.P. and have it changed when I order the coolant flush performed. It is better to be on the safe side on these issues.
