Did your mechanic check the on/off ratio?.
And how does he know that the spray pattern is bad unless he pulled the injectors out and tested them? I have tested several sets of 100K+ injectors that sprayed perfectly. Spray some carb cleaner around the injectors and see if the idle smoothes out a bit. Sometimes the seals leak but the injectors are fine, or at least good enough.
And are you sure that you don't have cracks in the rubber connectors for the vacuum lines?
If you pull the injectors, a set of hex drivers with 6" bits will help a lot. KD makes a decent set.
