Hi gang...could the collective help me resolve an irritating problem?

I bought a 5.8 ghz answering phone machine after I hammered
the old one ( It was
, not that this is important..) to death a few weeks ago because it kept erasing messages on it's own
(I'm easily irritated by machinery, if you havn't noticed.)
This unit allows me to go to the house next door and still recieve calls on the cordless hand set.
BUT....the blasted thing practically reads the 1960 'Castro Speech' to the UN before it allows you to listen to the messages.
Q: Is there a machine that does
not talk you to death or has 'edit' feature on the messages intro'? A machine that says NOTHING other than the outgoing/incoming message would be fine with me.
I KNOW the stupid machine has a message..
.there's a big blinking number flashing on it plus a BEEP every 10 seconds ! I do
not need to know when/how many/date/time/first message/old message/press deleat for old messages/ etc etc etc..............

Note : I recieve up to 25 calls a day.
