Does your tachometer not work(I'm guessing your 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo, BTW)? If it's under 900rpm in P or N, I would not worry too much. Just let it warm up for a few minutes to get everything circulating.

I believe the idle is computer controlled on the 92.
