As far as I can tell, timing chains on inline 4 and inline 6 engines are virtually never changed as the chains are so short.

M103 and M104 inline 6 engines also use a ratcheting type chain tensioner so that the tensioner doesn't lose tension when the engine is off because it doesn't rely on oil pressure.

I'd guess that your M111 uses the same type of tensioner.
