You don't have to remove the fan. Although one of the original founders of this site, BenzTech, who was a pro MB Tech said that he could change one in less than an hour using the Snap On FLX-13, I have never managed to get one and try it. I was ready to buy one once and the Snap On man couldn't even get one when he ordered it. The difference in using this and using an extension and wobble joint is that the FLX-13 has a 1/4" shaft. I am told that when torquing on this tool it feels like the tool shaft is going to twist in two.
Instead, I end up pulling the bolts from the tensioner and power steering pump to move them out of the way. It's a challenging job.
When there, replace the short hose. Make sure you order one with the pump.
