Sounds like he excersized his rights under the lemon law to get his money back (after 3 tries to repair you're entitled to have them buy it back minus a mileage allowance)
...more power to him...no excuse for a $50K+ car to be in the shop 3 times and need a new tranny after less than 3K miles.
I think it is asking a lot of a buyer to accept a car that needs a transmission replacement done that early on in its life...I know I wouldn't want the car knowing it had been done if I had the choice to return it and get my money back.
