I also have one and have used it off and on for the past twenty years. Though I don't know if in your case the elevated BP is something to worry about, I would think it prudent to check with your physician. If (s)he gives you the you would be better off. I can add that mine also elevated until I became acclimated. In accordance with the user's guide, I started going horizontal then kept increasing slowly until I was able to suspend inverted. The free hanging experience seems pretty good. I worked from slow inverted turning/stretching to eventually doing sit ups while inverted. Nice workout on the abs.
