Not sure what you mean by "plastic round thing", but the cable stop is what I was thinking of.(I didnt know what the name of those things were, so guess that's it?) If there needed to be something in front of the cable stop, perhaps a metal flat washer or plastic flat washer would work? Wish I had a picture of a new one, exposing the end so I could see.
