probably most beneficial to the filter company.

I'd say MB and most other auto manufactures spent a lot of time thinking about service intervals for their products.

Engineers spend all day thinking about this kinda stuff. Are you gonna out think them?

Yes, you could change your filter & oil much more often for a slight benefit...but you reach a point of diminishing returns...
