190e 2.6 no spark

Hello,
I'd like to start off by saying that i really appreciate this forum. It is a unique experience in the sense that pretty much all questions are answered with the sole goal to help:a commodity that is rare to find these days. Congrats to everybody who make it a great place to visit !

Anyway, on with the business. So here's my problem: I have an 89 190e 2.6 that has been stored for about 1 year and a half because of the common fuel pump relay problem(shut off after about 10min of driving). Not even 6 months ago, I boosted it and it came to life vividly. I just wanted to know if it was still working.
However, after a whole winter up here in Canada (lots of snow), i try to start it again and it doesn't budge. So i start the usual checks and notice that the fuel pump isn't buzzing on ignition."Perfect", I say, since i thought it would be the relay. I replace it, and great, i hear the familiar buzz of the pump. However, even after this, doesn't start. So I check for spark, and, alas, there is none. I open up the distributor and i notice thats its completely used up and covered in coper oxide. I then invest in a cap, rotor and some new spark plugs. Still no spark.
Here are my questions:
1- Is it possible that the coil would of gone bad in just 6 months because of humidity?
2- What are the electrical components (relays,anti-thefts? ...)that would prevent a spark?

1989 Mercedes 190e 2.6
around 150 000 miles on it
body in great condition...
