190e 2.6 no spark

Hello,
I'd like to start off by saying that i really appreciate this forum. It is a unique experience in the sense that pretty much all questions are answered with the sole goal to help:a commodity that is rare to find these days. Congrats to everybody who make it a great place to visit !

Anyway, on with the business. So here's my problem: I have an 89 190e 2.6 that has been stored for about 1 year and a half because of the common fuel pump relay problem(shut off after about 10min of driving). Not even 6 months ago, I boosted it and it came to life vividly. I just wanted to know if it was still working.
However, after a whole winter up here in Canada (lots of snow), i try to start it again and it doesn't budge. So i start the usual checks and notice that the fuel pump isn't buzzing on ignition."Perfect", I say, since i thought it would be the relay. I replace it, and great, i hear the familiar buzz of the pump. However, even after this, doesn't start. So I check for spark, and, alas, there is none. I open up the distributor and i notice thats its completely used up and covered in coper oxide. I then invest in a cap, rotor and some new spark plugs. Still no spark.
Here are my questions:
1- Is it possible that the coil would of gone bad in just 6 months because of humidity?
2- What are the electrical components (relays,anti-thefts? ...)that would prevent a spark?

Extra information:
1989 Mercedes 190e 2.6
around 150 000 miles on it
body in great condition...

I would not think that the coil would go out from sitting unless it was under water or the key had inadvertantly been left on. try some electrcal contact cleaner. on all the componants in the system. You might try tro drain some fuel at the tank to see if you have much condensation in the fuel. Last but not least is the posistion sensor,if it is not reading you will not get spark.good luck looking plenty of post on all this you now know an area to start.JNT

I have a post on here "300E intermittent stalling"and I reiterate this site has been great in helping. Unfortunately my brother didn't have the time and I needed my car. We determined no spark coming into cap and traced it backwards. That left coil and CPS (crankshaft position sensor). Wasn't coil - mechanic just called and said CPS - so check that.
