Why not take advantage of the great visibility the w123 has, a notch higher with the convex mirrors? I used to have the flat lens (I still have the original lens) but the convex one allows me to see in my right side blind spot much better than the flat one ever had. That's why I'm also on the lookout for the driverside convex mirrors (probably from RHD countries though, same idea opposite side only).

I do move my body when I turn, even if I have the convex mirrors. It doesn't really help much when parallel parking, because it can't tilt all the way down (unlike the newer cars) but it does help immensely just to determine if somebody or something is there or not, then I turn to judge the distance. At least that's how I do it.
